Selfgen Solution
Overview
The Selfgen suite of data collection,
conversion, enhancement, rating and reporting modules
is a desktop based solution designed to allow non-technical
end user staff to implement and maintain common OSS
business functions from a PC or Lap top environment.
Selfgen is not a traditional type of software package
with limited screen based functionality that a user
either needs or does not need; it is a Solution Generation
Environment (SGET). Once the user’s requirements
are designed on the screen using modern drag and drop
features. Selfgen then creates the application that
will enable the result to be delivered. The benefits
of the Selfgen SGE are described below.
The inherent problem with most OSS
systems is that a complex mediation process has to be
performed (and bought) to manipulate data from disparate
systems into common abridged formats that allow the
rating systems to calculate the rate of the call. This
will be a continuing problem as the inevitability of
convergence continues and the development of complex
services demands more and more complex rating algorithms.
Solution Schematic
This schematic shows the true “anything
in –anything out” nature of Selfgen. Now
Integration between a legacy system and a new environment
can be made simpler as Selfgen can convert and enhance
data “on-the-fly”.
Selfgen has no fixed rating elements
or format requirements.
Selfgen utilizes the Selfgen SGE builder
as its underlying core technology. This technology gives
Selfgen the ability to generate new code when required
and keep the performance to an optimal level. Once the
code is generated by Selfgen ’s SGE, it is available
to be implemented instantly by the user.
This new approach has the following
benefits on the traditional way applications were delivered
and maintained;

With the easy to use iterative implementation process
a complete (single switch) mediation solution can be
deployed in days. Once a rating rule is established
and executed it is available immediately for use. If
it needs enhancement or change the same easy-to-use
functionality is used to make the change and re-execute.

Because end users can be trained to create new requirements
or change existing logic, dependency on IT is greatly
reduced. No need to waste time having your legacy supplier
specify and quote for a new feature and then wait for
months for an uneconomic price. With Selfgen you would
create it or change it immediately on the screen in
front of you and having satisfied yourself it is what
you want just press the key and create the new or enhanced
code for immediate test and implementation.
Faster integration
Given the fast solution generation capabilities of the
Selfgen modules the ability to quickly integrate with
upstream or downstream applications using other Selfgen
modules for “anything to anything” data
conversion means that both time and cost is saved.
Greater performance
Selfgen and other modules are rules and dimension driven
which allows for quick changes to be created as well
as on going optimisation and maintenance. The solution
is desktop based which gives reduced hardware cost and
maintenance. The Selfgen performance is validated at
up to 50million events in an 8 hour processing window.
Available as a web based solution
Selfgen allows you to put the power of the web into
your OSS business area.
Small or large requirements
Desk top based, quick to install and easy to maintain
and enhance. Selfgen is also available as a managed
service via the web which is ideal for small customers.
In summary Selfgen offers clients fast
and flexible deployment, low cost implementation with
carrier level performance at a fraction of the cost
of legacy solutions. This has been achieved by taking
a radical departure from the normal (off the shelf)
event processing/rating products currently on offer
in today’s marketplace.
