Selfgen specializes
in high performance low cost software solution generation
for the telecoms marketplace. Founded in 2001 by former
telecoms operations managers who got fed up waiting
for the supplier to get round to the next release and
paying sky high maintenance and support costs for an
inferior solution.
Where did Selfgen
come from?
The founders of Selfgen were operations
managers in a number of telecoms companies. They found
that when marketing came to them and wanted a change
to the switch, rater, or billing system, which was always
wanted “yesterday” they would have to engage
with the software solution provider to get a quote for
implementing the change.
They would get a number of responses
such as, it will cost lots: it is in the next release:
it is not in the next release: we can’t do it
until January next year: we’ll need to do a scoping
study: the user group don’t want it. They had
no control over the supplier, the time to deliver or
the cost.
They would often develop their own ways of delivering
the result. But this was non-standard and over time
costly to support.
In an environment of difficult to maintain
legacy systems and rising support costs they realized
what they really wanted was a solution that:
| Gave them
control |
| Was quick
to deploy |
| Would
be easy to maintain |
| Would
be hardware independent |
| Would
run on a PC or lap top |
| Would
be idiot proof |
| Would
reduce dependency on IT |
| and would be very price
performant |
They developed the Selfgen Solution Generation Environment
(SGET).
